Rise Above Rise Above was created in 2022 to help those impacted by the ever changing, labyrinth of the Illinois registry and the many challenges that come with the responsibility. Those impacted are not only the people on the registry but, families, friends, co-workers, employers, landlords, religious institutions and communities at large.
We are a sister organization to Illinois Voices for Reform, Inc. (ILVoices). Where ILVoices focuses primarily on legal and legislative issues, Rise Above addresses the many social issues that people on the registry face each and every day.
Rise Above is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Donations are accepted, appreciated and tax deductible.
Who are the people of Rise Above? We are individuals on the registry or connected to someone who is. While no two struggles are alike, we understand the complexity and pit falls that come with this requirement and want to share with you what we wish we had known, information we wish we had, how we have (and continue) to succeed in life so that you can, too.
We value empowering people on the registry with information, educating communities, seeking peer support, and developing more research. We seek to equip organizations and businesses with knowledge to enable them to provide services without the fear of stigma by association.
Our Values
We share the goal of maintaining safe communities.
We believe people should be held accountable for harm to individuals and communities, and then be given a chance to prove themselves and move beyond their past.
The justice system must be held accountable for promoting safety, reducing recidivism, using resources wisely, and creating fair and reasonable policies based on sound research, not fear, opinion or political gain.
We should support people with criminal records in their efforts to move forward by leading positive and productive lives, supporting their families, and contribute to their community.
Successful reintegrating into society leads to safer communities when
An individual on the registry is encouraged to move on, be productive and given choices.
People on the registry are individual human beings and deserve to have their physical, emotional and spiritual needs met to make healthy life choices and not treated as less of a human being.
Stable work, housing, relationships and self-esteem are available for living a life successfully reintegrated into society.
Successful reintegration into society is possible for all individuals by being empowered with information, hope for a better tomorrow, skilled to contribute to society, and supported as a person of value.
