As we are growing and expanding our reach, we strive to make a larger impact. As you know, there are many challenges, even if you have a support system. The difficulties increase dramatically for those who do not have a support system. While we do our best to assist everyone, we don’t have the volunteer base we need yet. That is where you come in.
We need help from you. Whether you are an individual or family member/friend/partner impacted by the registry, YOU are welcome to volunteer! (Please keep in mind any parole/probation regulations you may have.) We do not provide any type of legal advice to anyone.
If you are interested in helping, we will have volunteer information meetings monthly. During this meeting you will meet the Board of Directors, hear about our volunteer needs and answer any questions you may have and speak to program directors. Please go to our website and complete the volunteer registration. You will be sent a Zoom link to the meeting a few hours before the meeting. If you are unable to attend this meeting, but are still interested, please note this on your registration.
These are the volunteer positions we have available currently:
Regional Point of Contacts (POC) – Assists with vetting services in your specific area that are friendly to our cause (landlords, employment, religious organizations, transportation, etc.) You do not personally need to provide support. Leadership skills and good communication are recommended. POC will work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Mailers – Assist in printing, stuffing envelopes and mailing information provided to inmates, impacted individuals, or organizations. Paper products are not provided at this time. Stamps may be available. Mailers work with the department in which the project was assigned.
Blog/Experience Contributors – We all have a story and people need to hear them. If you would like to share your story or provide your thoughts on various subject matters, we would love to hear them. Communication is key. Contributors work with the Education 4 Change Center.
Researchers – Conducting research for various projects to enhance Rise Above’s Resource Center and Education Center. An example may be to create a list of a specific type of organization including contact information or a project collecting data/media already prepared and available on the internet. Organization is recommended. Researchers work with the department in which the project was assigned.
Grant Writers – As a non-profit organization, we rely on donations and grants to operate. If you are someone who has experience writing grants, we can certainly use your assistance. If you have grant writing knowledge, organization and excellent communication skills, please consider helping us. Grant Writer works with the Executive Director.
Fearless Group Facilitators – A group facilitator will host one or more individual Fearless group meetings. This includes setting up a time and method of meeting, sending out reminders and links for group meetings. Each group is autonomous but has the support needed from Rise Above along with guidance and training. Facilitators should be willing to share their expertise and contribute with the group. Facilitators work with the Fearless Director.
Prison Outreach Advisors – This is not a legal advisor. The advisors will help create documents to advise of best practices prior to release and work with an individual(s) incarcerated due to a sex offense. This may include providing support, passing on any requests, being a pen pal and sending materials of benefit. Depending on your own circumstances, the volunteer may or may not be able to continue due to the Illinois State laws. Advisors will work with the Prison Outreach Director.
Volunteer Organizer(s) – Since we have a need for so many volunteers, we would like to add volunteer organizer(s) to our team of volunteers. This would include reaching out to volunteers as needed, distributing materials, and working with the volunteers to ensure the project is moving forward as projected. Organizer(s) will work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and department Directors.
To volunteer, please complete the volunteer registrationhere. Material Donations Needed, please send an email to [email protected] for a list of items and information.
Thank you for including us in your personal outreach efforts to positively impact the lives of those affected by the registry. We look forward to hearing from you.
